ON SOUND

Sound is the beginning of everything. Around 15 weeks into gestation, hearing is among the first senses to develop, connecting us to both the external world and the rhythmic beat of our mother’s heart. And it is also the last sense to fade at the end of life; while we can choose to close our eyes, we cannot shut off our sense of hearing.

Though our surroundings change, our physiology remains ancient, continually absorbing sounds. Daily, we take in frequencies that impact us, making it essential to clear and realign with those that truly resonate, maintaining clarity and balance.

  • Hydration: Arrive well-hydrated, and visit the bathroom beforehand. Sound moves the water within us, so staying hydrated helps facilitate this internal flow. Sound sessions can often prompt the urge to urinate, so we advise using the restroom before lying down.

Comfortable Clothing: Dress warmly and comfortably, especially in winter. Sessions last around 50 minutes, which is a significant time for the body to be at rest.

Structured Water: Bring structured water for after your session. We recommend St. Leonhard [ not sponsored ] for its quality and properties.

Digital Devices: Turn off your phone before entering the loft. We aim to maintain a space free from digital frequencies.

Set an Intention: Before beginning, take a moment to set a personal intention. Intentions can profoundly enhance the effects of sound work.

  • If you have a history of epilepsy, cardiovascular conditions, recent surgery, open wounds, or are between the 6th and 12th week of pregnancy, we recommend exploring other Daily Tones or  Different Tones sessions to ensure a safe and supportive experience.

  • The facilitator will introduce the practice, creating a safe and supportive space, especially for those new to sound work. You may be guided through an Inner Sound Meditation or breathing exercises to align the room’s frequency and bring you fully into the present moment.

The sound bath itself lasts around 30 minutes. For some, it feels like a “gong nap”—a state of deep relaxation—while others may experience it as an activation of inner awareness.

At the end, there will be a period of silence, allowing you to integrate the experience. The facilitator will gently guide you back to a seated position. To help you fully return to the body, the session will close with gentle humming or the universal sound “om.”

  • Congratulations on your pregnancy! Sound baths can offer relaxation and stress relief during this special time. However, it’s important to consider the following:

Early Pregnancy (6th to 12th week): We advise against participating in sound baths during this period, as the developing fetus is particularly sensitive.

Later Stages: After the first trimester, sound baths are generally considered safe. Please inform our facilitators of your pregnancy so they can adjust the session accordingly. Position yourself further from the instruments to reduce the intensity of vibrations.

Consult Your Healthcare Provider: Before attending a sound bath, discuss it with your healthcare provider to ensure it aligns with your individual health needs.

Your well-being and that of your baby are our top priorities. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

  • Stay Hydrated: Sound can stimulate internal movement of fluids, so you may feel extra thirsty. Drink structured water like St. Leonhard [ not sponsored ] to support rehydration and cellular renewal.

Detoxification: It’s normal to feel the need to use the bathroom after a session—this is a positive sign of detoxification.

Integration: If the session brought up any emotions, allow yourself time to process and integrate the experience. Here are some ways to support your integration:

Journaling: Write down your reflections, thoughts, or anything that surfaced during the session.

Voice Journaling: Speak your thoughts aloud as a way of processing, capturing any insights or emotions.

Sharing: If you feel comfortable, talk about your experience with a friend or loved one to help further integrate any shifts.

Dream Observation: Notice your dreams in the days following the session—working with sound often stirs the subconscious, sometimes leading to vivid or symbolic dreams.

Grounding: Take it slow as you leave. Walk mindfully, and allow yourself to fully land in your body before getting into a vehicle or moving quickly. If you have time, gentle stretching or breathing exercises can further help you feel grounded.

  • No need to worry—snoring during a sound bath is simply an additional layer of sound and often signals a deep state of relaxation, which is a positive sign for the facilitator. While some may perceive snoring as a disturbance, the facilitator will guide everyone to embrace all sounds, including snoring, as part of the experience.

To help you stay in a relaxed yet aware state, we recommend arriving well-rested. This way, you can experience the unique in-between state of deep relaxation without fully falling asleep—after all, this is a sound bath, not a sleeping session. Snoring is a common occurrence, so there’s no need to feel self-conscious.

  • No experience is necessary—sound speaks a universal language that transcends form and matter. Inner Sound welcomes everyone, regardless of background. Each person will experience sound uniquely, as it resonates in different “colors” for everyone.

  • Gong Baths can evoke a range of experiences, from deep relaxation to unexpected emotions. If strong feelings arise, it’s simply part of your personal response to the sound and vibration; it doesn’t reflect any particular quality or attribute of the gong itself. Each person’s experience is unique, and whatever comes up is a natural part of your journey with sound.
